We had a fantastic #VirtualLunch conversation today, Friday, May 6, 2022, with Debbie Foster of Affinity Consulting Group LLC, as part of our #StrategyMeetsTechnology series. My key takeaways were: (1) The evolution of how lawyers complete their work and are supported has shined a light on efficiency and productivity; (2) Efficiency and productivity are directly related to work-life balance; (3) Leaders in legal are paying more attention to efficiency, productivity, and profitability; (4) Whack-a-Mole doesn’t work in solving problems in legal; (5) Securing buy-in can be the hardest part of driving change in legal; (6) Leaders need to be vulnerable and admit they need technology; (7) Buy-in means being a fan and a culture warrior; (8) Facilitation skills are critical; (9) Leaders need to be able to read the room, which is a challenge in a remote setting; and, (10) Finding influencers in the room is an important part of setting expectations. We had a great #VirtualLunch conversation today, Friday, May 13, 2022, with #SpecialGuest Ari Treuhaft of Litify. My key takeaways were: (1) The platform approach is founded on having transparency to make better business decisions, extensibility to provide the flexibility to perform legal work in an optimal way, and automation to drive success and progress; (2) We need to balance the intangible value of meeting in person with the practical aspects working remotely; (3) Salesforce is deployed most commonly as a #CRM and ticketing system, but has established an ISV model that allows businesses to build their own systems on top of the underlying platform; (4) The goal is not to use technology as a place to put things, but as a device to drive improvement and scalability; (5) User adoption is critical in legal; (6) Focus on the value you are delivering to distinguish your offering; and, (7) Practices that work in law firms can be applied in-house.
